ABOUT ROZ & CLICHY
Being a child of the 1970’s, I often wore my natural hair and skin. As a woman of color, there was only one line of makeup available for my skin tone, and it was in limited supply, distributed in just one department store. It was pretty expensive too, so I only used makeup on special occasions.
Many years later when I moved to the south, I was re-introduced to makeup. Since I was prone to acne, that came at a price – frequent outbreaks, skin discoloration marks, and many trips to the dermatologist. It truly took a toll on my self-esteem. Then I moved to Los Angeles - I thought that tinsel town would magnify my insecurities about beauty and self-worth, but it had quite the opposite effect: I grew stronger, more confident.
One day during a work meeting, I looked around the conference room and I was the old lady in the room. I had aged and I didn’t like what I saw. I let myself go. I wondered if my discomfort was with growing old, or others perception of my age. Did I still have it, and what is it that I want to still have?
During my commute to and from work with a younger colleague, I begin talking about makeup. She shared videos made by self-taught makeup artists which I began to follow. I also bought and experimented with makeup. This time it was not to hide blemishes and discolorations, but to create looks that inspire myself and others.
In December 2017, while in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, I visited the flagship Louis Vuitton store. It was pure magic. It was at that point I realized I wanted my own makeup company.
I left Europe enlightened and determined to inspire others. Clichy Beauty was born. I’m convinced that I bring a very unique value proposition to the makeup space.
For style, laughter, sisterhood and fun, Clichy Beauty is here to help and it is here to stay.
